Saving Money at JCPenney

March 1st, 2010

Since becoming budget-conscious, I can not stand paying full price for anything anymore. So when I went shopping at JCPenney this past weekend, I wanted to make sure I got a deal. Here’s what I did to save money at JCPenney.

First, JCPenney very kindly sent me (and everyone else) a $10 freebie coupon in February, to be spent on whatever I wanted.  But beyond such nice little incentives they offer from time to time, here is one that you can take advantage of anytime:

JCPenney’s reward program: you can sign up for it at www.jcprewards.com.  It asks for a code to verify your sign-up, but if you don’t have the code you can choose to have one e-mailed to you.  The rewards program pays you back at least one point per dollar, and when you hit 250 points, you get a $10 gift certificate.  To participate in the program, it’s similar to Upromise, where you have to register your credit or debit cards.  Of course they give you more points when you register your J.C. Penney card and pay with that, but since we are all getting rid of our credit cards including store cards, that is irrelevant.  Register your debit card.  :-)

Also, JCPenneys has a survey program like many stores do, and the invitation is included with your cash register receipt.  What makes their survey program different from other stores is that they aren’t just offering you a chance to win $5000 or whatever in a drawing.  They actually give you a coupon for 15% off your next purchase at the end of the survey.

And don’t forget you can also earn cash back through ebates.  Right now they are paying 3% cash back on online orders for JC Penney.

So if you like shopping at J.C. Penney’s then make sure you take advantage of their discount programs.  There is no reason to pay full price, or to not receive a cash-back reward.

There is one last way in which I’ve been able to save money at JCPenney, and  that is in the styling salon.  I don’t know if it’s the same at all JCPenney salons everywhere, but at the one I go to the stylists have the freedom to offer you discounts or throw in freebies.  They also have a punch card that gives you a 10% off after 10 services.

Happy savings!
