I’m getting a free Droid smart phone! You can too…
March 10th, 2010Resistance is futile! We were not going to go with the “smart phone” craze, especially given our current drive to pay off our credit cards. However, it was the drive to increase our income that convinced us finally that we needed to get with the times. Running multiple websites including an online natural supplements store, we knew we had to get with the times. And we found a deal where we could get two free Droid Eris smart phones. So hey, why not!
My Points was one of the first “survey” sites I joined. Interestingly enough, it’s not nearly so much about surveys as it is about clicking on e-mail advertisements to earn points, or doing various other little polls or games etc. to get points. And it takes FORVER to get anywhere, I have yet to get enough “approved” points to cash in even for a measly $5 Amazon gift card. However, one thing about viewing all those advertisements every day, sooner or later one of them is going to get you. And this time, it was Verizon that got us with their free Droid Eris smart phone offer.
We had just been thinking we ought to try to find a good deal on upgrading to smart phones, preferably an iPhone or a Droid, and of those two we were really hoping for a Droid. (iPhone’s 3G network is not even available yet where we live). We are Sprint customers at the moment, but the best Sprint deal I could find was $99 a piece for the new phones. Even though it is a business expense, we need to pull everything we can out of the business for debt repayment. It’s bad enough our monthly fee will double having the internet capability with the phones, but we really wanted to avoid having to fork over that initial pop for the smart phone itself.
So when MyPoints sent us the Verizon deal, we had to check it out. We were soon approved, but there were a couple of drawbacks. First of all, they could not port our new phone numbers from Sprint to Verizon. Something to do with the Sprint/Alltel merger not yet having made it to where we live (our little city is apparently too isolated from the rest of civilization). Secondly, we didn’t have any say in what our new phone numbers would be. I always have trouble memorizing phone numbers, so I was hoping to get something easy. Oh well, a small price to pay in order to get free Droids!
If you’re looking to get a Droid, you may want to get yourself a free membership at MyPoints and poke around to find that Verizon offer. You’ll even get 4,000 bonus points for doing the sign up, and that is saying something for MyPoints (who tend to be somewhat stingy doling out the points). Welcome to the world of smart phone mobile! Now if I can just figure out how to use it…
